Cats love playing outside. They just don`t want to be locked inside the house. They simply want to go outside. If you have a backyard, that would be ideal for them. Some cats demand to be outside. Many people allow their kitties part-time outside. They do not keep them outside.
This cat probably did it accidentally once, and learned quickly that it got a result! That is probably the real explanation. And when your cat learn this interesting trick, you might have problems with that in the future. You should expect ringing during the night.
