PORT CLINTON – The smallest sufferer of the house explosion that demolished two houses and damaged several across East Harbor Road is the brave cat called Taffy.
Taffy is 17 years old cat and not just survived the deadly explosion and following fire, but he amazingly run away without serious injuries after being saved from the home in fire next door to the explosion.
Probably Taffy was thrown through a glass window by the explosion, which was heard for miles .
Explosion was so enormous that also created a big fireball that unluckily caught the home next door on fire.
Taffy was saved from the house, but the extremely large heat from the blaze exhausted him, and he was taken to Harborview.
Theresa Taylor, practice manager at the vet center, said Taffy came in less than 30 minutes of the incident, which happened about 8:46 a.m., and they have been healing him since.
Taffy had several burns to his paws, ears and face, but luckily without broken bones or severe lacerations.
“Now he is recovering very well,” Taylor said.
Taffy’s kind paws were harmed the most and needed bandaging. He also had problems with breathing , and that probably means that he had a fluid in the lungs, De Roziere said, but now he is breathing properly.
Taffy is on antibiotics, which he receives three times a day, and pain medication. He has been eating well and “resting comfortably” during his hospital stay.
De Roziere think it will perhaps take about less than month for Taffy to completely recover.
After all this suffering Taffy is very friendly cat, and enjoy her human company. He is not hiding.
“He’s just been incredible,” Taylor said. “He hasn’t given us any problems or anything. He’s probably one of the friendliest cats we’ve ever seen.”
