The pallas`s cat ( Otocolobus manul) also known as manul , is the oldest species of cat. They are in the same size as domestic cats, but in fact they are small wild cats, the lives mainly in the Central Asia.
They are really affected by prey base decline, hunting and habitat degradation. They were classified ” Near Threatened ” since 2002.
In past years, a few pallas cat were photographed for the very first time. They are solitary. Both females and males scent mark their territory. They spend almost all day living in the caves, and only in the late afternoon they went out for hunting.
Unluckily, they are target for hunters, for their fur in Russia, Mongolia and China. They are feeding with insects, birds and small rodents. Almost nothing is known for their reproductive habits. Litter generally are from 3 to 6 kitties.
There is a very huge variation in coat colors. They have a specific fur with black spots on the head and black stripes. They look so mystical , aren`t they. But, they are very beautiful and wonderful.
We should take more care of these rare cats.
