Large number of self-proclaimed “dog people” say they don’t like cats because they don’t love people. They say that cats are independent animals that don’t want to do play and cooperate with humans until it’s time for their dinner.
That’s far from the truth. Cats, same as dogs, have their own personalities. Some are more independent than others some like to talk, some like to cuddle, and some like to knock all of your stuff off of every surface in the home. A cat’s behavior also depends very strongly on his past cooperation with humans. In the same way that abused dogs need compassion and love, neglected cats need a bit additional care to warm up to people.
But they are absolutely able of falling in love with their human friends, just like dogs.
When I first got my cat, he hid under the sofa all day and left me with scratches when I tried to pick him up. But everything changed, and now after few years with me, he’s the friendliest kitty I’ve ever met. Even my guests who claim to hate cats totally admit that “he’s very nice!”
